Something a bit different on Friday. A friend from Melbourne is working on a Phd on the works of 19th century painter Eugene Von Guerard, who spent a lot of time in the Ballarat district back around the 1850-60's. Part of his research involved visiting some of the viewpoints EvG painted from, and we were very fortunate to gain access to the old Fire Tower in Sturt Street, which gives you a great view east along Sturt Street.
After that we ventured out to Lal Lal Reservoir where we had permission to go searching for some indications of the locations he may have used in his paintings. Whilst the reservoir has plenty of water, the Lal Lal Creek has a minimal trickle. I still managed to capture some nice images of the great granite boulders and when almost back at the car this view looking down the creek valley caught my eye with the one patch of red leaves amongst the green.
